ITINERARY: VERZI – VIA JULIA AUGUSTA – ARMA DELLE FATE (CAVE)
By car (from Finale Ligure’s train station FF SS): you take the national road Aurelia (Strada Statale 1) in the direction of Savona for 1,6 Km until the fork with the SP8 (Via Calvisio, before the tunnel). Continue along this way for about 2,3 Km to reach the little bridge in where the road leads to Verzi. Go up this road to arrive to the junction with an unpaved road (on your left hand side) and follow this new road for about
500 m until you reach an open space where you can park your car. (The car journey is 5,3 km long).

The trail is signaled and easily walkable.
The trail starts just a couple of meters before the Roman bridge “Ponte delle Fate”, on the right hand side.
This steep trail climbs the hill and leads directly to the cave “Arma delle Fate”. You are going to encounter only one fork during the trail and you will have to ignore the deviation, continuing straight on the main trail. The trail goes along the mountain side and goes through an area rich of butcher’s broom, ending to the entrance of the cave.
The entry of the hole is preceded by a big cave that is 10 meters long which ends in the real “arma delle fate” entrance. The cave develops in about 300 meters and the narrow passages require, sometimes, to crawl. The inner part of the cave is full of stalactites and stalagmites. Many archeological finds were found in this cave, such as remains of the “Ursus Spelaeus” and even Neanderthal remains.
Turn around and follow back your steps to get back to the starting point and the car.
